Project Brief: To design a Corporate office for a Cable (HT Cables and House Wiring) Manufacturing firm that will reflect some of their company philosophies and values.
To create spaces and surfaces using a variety of textures and materials, finely tuned and mould into each other, forming a space that is instantly thought provoking, a space that intrigues its visitors into learning more about the company, provides a pleasant work environment and inspires their teams to excel.
The project site is a 60 year old building with many load bearing walls. Our first challenge was to design a layout within the existing structure with huge walls in the middle of what we thought could be a nice working space. Our thought was to make the office look as spacious as possible to create the right impact on its visitors. An open unobstructed space also helped create a healthy work environment for its people. With constraints like windows only on one side of the floor, we tried to create as many partitions in frosted glass as possible to allow indirect flow of day light into every room.
Our effort was to create spaces and surfaces using a variety of textures and materials, finely tuned and mould into each other, forming a space that is instantly thought provoking, a space that intrigues its visitors into learning more about the company, providing a pleasant work environment and inspire their own teams to excel.
The idea was to use the product manufactured by the client. We finally settled for displaying it as a beautiful mosaic pattern created using half inch cables sections across the main reception area.
All the details in this project , be it the wall behind the reception seating, or the main reception backdrop, the pathway leading across the main corridor, be it the MD’s cabin desk or its seating have been designed keeping in mind the existing space available - with all its structural constraints, and using a wide variety of locally available materials, some of which are manufacturing scrap, mould together to form well sculpted, attractive but not intimidating spaces, materials colours and textures that are vastly different yet complement each other once they are put together in well thought out details.
